Roast: Medium Review Date: August 2004
Origin: Matagalpa growing region, Nicaragua Price: NA

Blind Assessment: Intensely sweet, round fruit swoons toward milk chocolate in the aroma. Simplifies in the cup, the aromatics dominated by an intense acidity that is properly sweet but -- perhaps owing to its sheer intensity -- lacks an impression of depth and fruit.

Notes: Certified organically grown and Fair-Traded, meaning the farmer was paid a formula-defined "fair" price for his coffee. Surf City Coffee is a small-batch, primarily wholesale roaster located in the lively community around the University of California at Santa Cruz. Who Should Drink It: Lovers of big, dry medium-roasted coffees of the old-fashioned, pancakes-and-syrup-complementing kind.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
