Roast: NA Review Date: January 2000
Origin: Not disclosed. Price: NA

Blind Assessment: This blend expresses the usual bitter-but-sweet paradox of dark-roast coffees with particular intensity. The sweetness is almost sugary and the burned bitterness dramatically sharp. Not much range, development or weight, but the cup does offer a pleasant tickle of fruit and lavender. The bitterness outlasts the sweetness in the aftertaste.

Notes: This blend expresses the usual bitter-but-sweet paradox of dark-roast coffees with particular intensity. The sweetness is almost sugary and the burned bitterness dramatically sharp The Trader Joe 's can is particularly emphatic about the species credentials of this blend: "100% Arabica Beans -- No Robustas." Sold whole bean in a nitrogen-flushed fiberboard can. Cost per ounce: $0.32.

Who Should Drink It: Since people who like dark roasts tend to value intensity over depth and subtlety, this coffee should suit them fine, particularly if they 're on a budget. Brew it strong to offset the relatively light body.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
