Roast: Medium Review Date: September 2013
Origin: Amaro region, southern Ethiopia. Price: $15.50/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Intense, exotic, balanced. Lush night-blooming flowers, roasted cacao nib, butter, hints of cedar and plum in aroma and cup. Richly round acidity; full, syrupy mouthfeel. Flavor consolidates but persists deep into a balanced, slightly drying finish.

Notes: This is a dry-processed or "natural" coffee, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit has been removed, as is the case with wet-processed or "washed" coffees. Certified organically grown and meticulously prepared by Asnakech Thomas, Ethiopia’s only female miller/exporter. With two locations in Southern California's Orange County, Kéan Coffee is an in-house coffee roaster and retailer established by Martin Diedrich of the distinguished Diedrich coffee family. The Kéan slogan, "Martin knows his beans" should be true, considering Martin grew up in Guatemala where his family owned a coffee farm. Who Should Drink It: A lush but cleanly crisp, balanced dried-in-the-fruit coffee.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
