Mchana Kenya Peaberry by Johnson Brothers Coffee Review | CoffeeReview.com
95
Roast: Medium Review Date: July 2013
Origin: Central Kenya. Price: $15.99/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Crisply juicy, precious. Sweet ripe lemon, blackberry, black currant, roasted cacao nib in aroma and cup. Luxurious, lively acidity; silky mouthfeel. Flavor consolidates but maintains complexity and intensity in a long, rich finish.

Notes: Despite grower discontent and urban encroachment on prime coffee lands, Kenya continues to produce some of the world's most elegant and distinctive coffees. This sample consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops only a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Peaberries produce a somewhat different (often better) cup than normal beans from the same crop, from which they may or may not be separated during grading. Who Should Drink It: One of the most quintessentially classic Kenyas we have cupped in a long time. If any coffee merits the term elegant this one does.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
