  • Bliss of Gayo (as espresso)

Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: June 2013
Origin: Gayo growing region, Aceh Province, northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Price: NT $1000/16 ounces

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Aromatic cedar, dark chocolate, orange, fresh-turned earth in aroma and small cup. Velvety mouthfeel; flavor consolidates but persists in a rich finish. Orange and an earthy, cedar-toned chocolate in particular persist in three parts milk.

Notes: In addition to his retail roasting operation Aroma Roast Coffees, Simon Hsieh also operates Soaring Phoenix Trading, a business focused on purposed-built commercial espresso blends and high quality single-origin coffees. Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy the sweet-toned, aromatic earth notes of a traditional Sumatra in an espresso presentation.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
