Roast: Medium Review Date: April 2013
Origin: Loja Province, Ecuador Price: $14.95/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Quiet but deeply and sweetly complex. Butter, roasted cacao nib, dark cherry, a hint of clove, and a tangerine-like top note in aroma and cup. Delicately crisp acidity; silky mouthfeel. Flavor consolidates but lingers in a sweet-toned, slightly drying finish.

Notes: Produced by small-holding farmers in the Loja growing region. With two locations in Southern California's Orange County, Kéan Coffee is an in-house coffee roaster and retailer established by Martin Diedrich of the distinguished Diedrich coffee family. The Kéan slogan, "Martin knows his beans" should be true, considering Martin grew up in Guatemala where his family owned a coffee farm. Who Should Drink It: Those who prefer quietly resonant, gently complex coffees.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
