Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: March 2013
Origin: Puno Province, southeastern Peru. Price: $17.75/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Sweet, pungent, complex. Night-blooming flowers, a sweetness half way between honey and molasses, fresh-cut cedar, grapefruity citrus in aroma and cup. Lively, bright, though balanced acidity; delicate, buoyant mouthfeel. Rich, grapefruity tartness carries into a long, resonant finish.

Notes: Grown, processed and dried on Raul Mamani’s prize-winning five-acre farm near Lake Titicaca on the Peruvian border with Bolivia. Raul is one of 5,325 farmer members of CECOVASA cooperative. Certified organically grown. Based in the San Diego area, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is a retailer and wholesaler focused on organic and socially responsible coffees; it was awarded the “2012 Roaster of the Year” title from Roast Magazine. Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy pungently sweet, complex beverages with a wide range of sensation, from citrusy tart to floral-toned sweet.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
