Coffee Review - Organic Peru by Kickapoo Coffee
93
Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: March 2013
Origin: Cajamarca growing region, Peru. Price: $11.75/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Pure, powerful, sweetly bright. Chocolate, honey, orange zest, fresh-cut fir in aroma and cup. Richly and roundly tart acidity; full, syrupy mouthfeel. The finish is tart, resonant and flavor-saturated.

Notes: Kickapoo has developed a direct relationship with farmers surrounding Huabal village, from whom it buys this impressive coffee via Cenfrocafe, an umbrella cooperative with over two-thousand members. This coffee is certified organic, and although the words "Fair Trade" appear on the label of the attractive valve-topped can, judging by the absence of trademarked seal this coffee may not be certified Fair Trade by FairTrade USA (formerly TransFair USA). However, Kickapoo is affiliated with the Fair Trade Federation, a membership (rather than certifying) organization devoted to "providing fair wages and good employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide." Kickapoo Coffee is a Wisconsin micro-roaster devoted to organic and fair-trade principles and coffees. Visit www.kickapoocoffee.com or call 608-637-2022 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy a classically structured morning cup: bright, big-bodied, but balanced.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
