Coffee Review - Sumatra Wahana by Bard Coffee
94
Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: February 2013
Origin: Lintong growing region, northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Price: $16.20/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Immense, resonant, shifting aroma and flavor. Rose- and lavender-like flowers, cantaloupe, peppercorn, dark chocolate, rye whisky just as starters. Functional, integrated acidity; lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Long, rich, flavor saturated finish with a dry, savory edge.

Notes: This exceptional coffee was selected as the #21 coffee in the Coffee Review Top 30 Coffees of 2013. This is a dry-processed or "natural" coffee, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit has been removed, as is the case with “wet-hulled” coffees more typical of northern Sumatra. Wahana Estate is a relatively new coffee farm in the classic Lintong growing district near Lake Toba. Bard Coffee is a coffeehouse and roasting company based in Portland, Maine, focused on distinctive single-origin coffees. Who Should Drink It: A light but fully developed roast encourages expression of a massive and ultimately harmonious complexity that should surprise and please any coffee drinker save the most conventional in taste.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
