  • La Bendicion Guatemala

Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: January 2013
Origin: Huehuetenango growing region, northwestern Guatemala. Price: $17.75/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Honey, walnut, meadow flowers, tangerine in aroma and the cup, where the flowers deepen and the nut notes turn toward a crisp roasted cocoa nib. Brisk, rather pronounced acidity is softened by a floral sweetness. Silky mouthfeel. The tangerine-like citrus carries into a resonant, gently drying finish.

Notes: Produced from trees of the heirloom Bourbon and sturdy Caturra varieties of Arabica. La Bendición is a high-altitude farm in the admired Huehuetenango growing region. Terroir is a microroaster focusing on elite single-origin coffees. It was a pioneer in the revival of medium roast styles designed to foreground the character of the green coffee. Terroir is the creation of George Howell, one of the world's leading coffee visionaries. Visit www.georgehowellcoffee.com or call 866-444-5282 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Those who value skillfully light-roasted coffees of great purity that preserve a meadow-like freshness and brisk sweetness.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
