Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: January 2013
Origin: Lintong growing region, northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Price: $18.00/16 ounces

Blind Assessment: Sweetly pungent, intense. Molasses, fresh-cut cedar, grapefruit, and a sweet-toned fresh earth note in aroma and cup. Rich, lively acidity; silky mouthfeel. Long, richly flavor-saturated finish.

Notes: Coffees from the northern part of the Indonesian island of Sumatra are admired for their complex earth, fruit and aromatic wood notes that result largely from unorthodox fruit removal and drying practices called “wet hulling.” This coffee is a particularly refined example of the type. Located in Everett, Washington, north of Seattle, Velton's Coffee is a quality-focused small-batch wholesale roaster. Visit www.veltonscoffee.com or call 206-250-6130 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Lovers of the great traditional Sumatra profile should enjoy this lively, elegantly complex version of the style.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
