  • Simon Hsieh's Aroma Roast Coffees

    Taoyuan City, Taiwan
  • Guatemala Antigua Phoenix Special Bourbon

Roast: Medium Review Date: May 2012
Origin: Antigua growing region, south-central Guatemala. Price: NT $1200/16 ounces

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Richly and sweetly tart in aroma and small cup: fresh-cut cedar, dark chocolate, zesty orange, hints of flowers and pipe tobacco. Full yet buoyant, lively mouthfeel. Flavor carries into a long, deep finish. Tart fruit, softened by a backgrounded chocolaty sweetness, continues to dominate in two parts milk.

Notes: Produced in the growing region surrounding the famous colonial city of Guatemala Antigua entirely from trees of the heirloom Bourbon variety of Arabica. In addition to his retail roasting operation Aroma Roast Coffees, Simon Hsieh also operates Soaring Phoenix Trading, a business focused on purposed-built commercial espresso blends and high quality single-origin coffees. Visit tw.myblog.yahoo.com/Grey-Zone or call 886-0983-749876 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Those who enjoy the brightness and complexity of a classic medium-roasted Arabica tactfully tamed for espresso cuisine.
