Blind Assessment: A straightforward, rather plain coffee. Most complex in the sweet, gently pungent aroma: raisin, cedar, dark chocolate. Sweet-toned but subdued acidity; slightly lean mouthfeel. The attractive aromatics persist but simplify in the cup and finish. Notes: One of two brand-complicating medium-roasted blends introduced in 2011 by Peet’s Coffee, hitherto famous for its commitment to a pungently rich, dark-roast style. This blend, described on the bag as “Smooth, Balanced and Medium-Bodied,” is named for Domingo Avenue in Berkeley, California, the lovely little shopping enclave where Peet’s opened its third location in 1980. Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
