  • Maria Lucia Tunja Monserrate Espresso

Roast: Medium Review Date: January 2011
Origin: Huila Department, Colombia Price: $20.00/500 grams (17.6 oz.)

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Deep dark chocolate and hints of fruit in the aroma. In the small cup the fruit becomes richer and distinct, showing cherry-like and floral complications that carry into a softly nuanced finish. Sweet and balanced in two parts milk, with sustained hints of fruit, butter and toast.

Notes: A prize winner in an annual competition that is open to coffee producers in the Monserrate community. This one-bag lot was awarded sixth place by the judges of the competition. In a community of over forty-two family farms, Monserrate coffee producers organized several years ago into the Associative Group of Producers of the New Millennium and have been expanding their numbers since. Coava is a Portland based coffee roaster that aims to provide quality coffee and the knowledge needed to properly brew that coffee. Who Should Drink It: A complex straight shot, gently balanced in milk.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
