Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: January 2011
Origin: South-central Kenya. Price: $13.95/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Delicate, sweet-toned, giddily bright. Honey and rose-like flowers dominate in aroma in cup, with hints of ripe orange and moist pipe tobacco. Fruit-saturated acidity, light but very smooth mouthfeel, richly resonant finish in which the honey and floral notes turn vaguely but pleasingly toward milk chocolate.

Notes: Despite grower discontent and sporadic social disorder, Kenya continues to produce some of the world's most elegant and distinctive coffees. This sample consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops only a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Peaberries produce a somewhat different (often better) cup than normal beans from the same crop, from which they may or may not be separated during grading. Atomic Cafe is a retail and wholesale coffee roaster on the North Shore of Massachusetts with cafes in Beverly and Marblehead, Massachusetts. Who Should Drink It: Remarkably refined, buoyantly and sweetly bright Kenya.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
