  • Ethiopia Konga Co-op Yirgacheffe

Roast: Medium Review Date: January 2011
Origin: Yirgacheffe growing region, southern Ethiopia. Price: $15.95/12 ounces

Blind Assessment: Depth and syrupy opulence in an extravagant aromatic profile: heavy-scented dusk flowers, rich, almost carnal fruit (apricot, plum, cherry), a brightening hint of lemon, crisp cocoa intensifying toward a resonantly flavor-saturated finish.

Notes: Certified organically grown by the Konga Cooperative. Yirgacheffe is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that produces distinctively floral- and fruit-toned coffees from traditional varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. Yirgacheffe coffees like this one processed by the wet or washed method (fruit skin and pulp is removed before drying) typically express great aromatic complexity and intensity with a particular emphasis on citrus and floral notes. Terroir is a microroaster focusing on elite single-origin coffees. It is a pioneer in the revival of medium roast styles designed to foreground the character of the green coffee. Terroir is the creation of George Howell, one of the world's leading coffee visionaries. Visit or call 866-444-5282 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: An extraordinarily opulent and deep version of the great Yirgacheffe profile.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
