Roast: Medium Review Date: September 2010
Origin: Jinotega growing region, north-central Nicaragua Price: $18.00/500 g (17.6 oz.)

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. A complex small cup layered with notes of maple syrup, fir, toasted nut and dried fruit, apricot perhaps. Medium-bodied, but with deep, sustained flavor that carries sweetly into the finish. Flavor becomes even more nuanced in two parts milk: richly sweet caramel supports pungent fruit and aromatic wood notes.

Notes: From the San Jose-La Lima farm in Jinotega, one of the better-known coffee-growing regions of Nicaragua. Coava is a Portland based coffee roaster that aims to provide quality coffee and the knowledge needed to properly brew that coffee. Who Should Drink It: Whether you take your espresso straight or with milk, everybody wins.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
