Roast: Medium Review Date: July 2010
Origin: Matagalpa, Nicaragua Price: CAD $29.35 /32 oz.

Blind Assessment: Crisp and refined aroma: butter, nut, and delicate hints of aromatic wood and baking spices. Penetrating, fruit-toned acidity, silky mouthfeel and delicate flavors that suggest orange, flowers, peas and nut. Aromatic wood remerges in the finish, along with a dry, orange-toned chocolate in the long.

Notes: This coffee is made up entirely of the Caturra variety of Arabica and is Rainforest Alliance certified, meaning it was produced following sustainable ecological and socio-economic criteria developed by the Sustainable Agricultural Network, a coalition of independent, environment-focused non-governmental organizations. Calgary-based Fratello is a second-generation boutique coffee roaster owned by three brothers who focus on responsible trade relationships with coffee growers. Who Should Drink It: Delicately complex in the cup, with reassuring environmental credentials.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
