  • Costa Rica La Minita Tarrazu

Roast: Medium Review Date: May 2010
Origin: Tarrazu growing region, central Costa Rica Price: $19.95/16 oz.

Blind Assessment: Soft but crisp aroma: flowers, nut, fresh-cut wood, baking chocolate. In the cup gentle, balanced acidity; smooth, lightly creamy mouthfeel; superb balance. A hint of lush dusk flowers and a sweet, nut-toned cocoa note carries gracefully from cup to finish.

Notes: Specialty coffee pioneer Bill McAlpin's La Minita Estate was in many ways the original estate coffee, a coffee that thirty or so years ago breathtakingly helped raise the bar for green coffee quality and distinction. As this version confirms, it remains a benchmark for purity, balance and classic clarity of cup. Established in 1963, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is a large Los Angeles based roaster and retailer with over 700 locations in twenty countries. Who Should Drink It: Softly refined version of the great La Minita cup for those who prefer the elegant to the exotic or the muscular.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
