  • Colombia Monserrate Espresso

Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: April 2010
Origin: Huila Department, Colombia Price: $18.50 / 500 g. (17.6 oz.)

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. High-toned, sweet aroma: caramel and hints of orange, lemon and aromatic wood. In the small cup the fruit brightens and the suggestions of lemon and aromatic wood become more distinct, though still softened by caramel. Two parts milk deepen the caramel to a dark chocolate nuanced by continued hints of citrus and aromatic wood.

Notes: Monserrate is produced by a community of forty-two family farms near the town of La Plata in Colombia's Huila Department. These farmers organized several years ago into the Associative Group of Producers of the New Millennium and have been expanding their numbers since. Coava is a Portland based coffee roaster that aims to provide quality coffee and the knowledge needed to properly brew that coffee. Who Should Drink It: Lively single-origin espresso, light-roasted and citrusy.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
