  • Brasil Fazenda Chapadao de Ferro Espresso

Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: April 2010
Origin: Patrocinio area, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Price: $18.50 / 500 g. (17.6 oz.)

Blind Assessment: Evaluated as espresso. Crisp aroma with an enveloping sweetness: dried apricot, caramel, nut. All carries into the small cup, complicated by penetrating suggestions of lemon, cocoa nib, fir. Lightly syrupy mouthfeel, rich finish. In two parts milk the cocoa rounds to chocolate nuanced by continued hints of fir and lemon.

Notes: Processed by the traditional Brazilian natural or dry method, meaning the beans were dried with both skin and fruit still adhering to the bean. Chapadao de Ferro or "Plateau of Iron" no doubt received its name because of the soil's rich iron content. Coava is a Portland based coffee roaster that aims to provide quality coffee and the knowledge needed to properly brew that coffee. Visit or call 503-894-8134 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Roundly balanced, quietly complete single-origin espresso.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
