Review of Batdorf & Bronson Sumatra Mandheling Coffee
86
Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: April 2010
Origin: Mandheling growing region, northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Price: $12.95 / 16 oz.

Blind Assessment: Subdued aroma: spicy aromatic wood, hints of earth, butter, dark chocolate. In the cup quiet acidity, full body, sweet-toned but simple, heavy flavor with hints of aromatic wood and earth. Simple and rich in the short finish, but fades quickly toward a slightly salty astringency.

Notes: Mandheling is a term variously used to describe a growing region surrounding Lake Toba in North Sumatra Province and a traditional type of wet-hulled coffee associated with that region. Batdorf & Bronson is a leading wholesale quality-oriented specialty roaster with operations in both Olympia, Washington and Atlanta, Georgia. Who Should Drink It: Lovers of the older style of Sumatra, heavy and dense.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
