Roast: Very-Dark Review Date: November 2009
Origin: Guatemala Price: NA

Blind Assessment: A balanced and rather complex ultra dark roast. Intense, deeply smoky aroma, dominated by a charred wood character. By contrast the cup is relatively delicate and smooth with a lightly syrupy body and a gently charred cedar that, with patience, rounds toward caramel. Clean, richly roasty finish.

Notes: This blend combines coffees from Guatemala's eight designated growing regions. Run by the Solares family, Coffea Roasters is a coffee company with a presence in both Guatemala City and the Washington DC area. In addition to roasting coffee, the family also manages a coffee farm in Guatemala's Coban growing region. Visit www.coffea.com.gt or call 703-448-8058 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: A sweet, smoky, smooth version of an extreme dark roast.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
