Roast: Medium-Light Review Date: October 2009
Origin: Southern India. Price: NA

Blind Assessment: A sweet mustiness and a hint of fruit ferment read convincingly as caramel, perhaps dark chocolate, complicated by dry aromatic wood notes. Rounded acidity, medium body. The rich finish borders on heavy, but the flavor notes prolong nicely.

Notes: This is a ?super grade? Monsooned Malabar, an arabica coffee that, after drying inside the fruit and fruit removal, has been exposed to wet, salty winds inside special open-sided warehouses during the monsoon season. After several months of such exposure the beans swell to about twice their normal size, lose acidity, and develop a mildly malty, musty character. Josuma Coffee is a distinguished importer, blender and roaster of India coffees. Its elegant and outspoken founder, Joseph Johns, pioneered special India types in the North American market. Who Should Drink It: Pungent but sweet, does very well as espresso and takes on milk with graceful authority.
