Roast: Medium-Dark Review Date: June 2006
Origin: Yirgacheffe growing region, southern Ethiopia. Price: NA

Blind Assessment: The aroma is intense and complex: cherry, blueberry, brandy, chocolate, with an underlying edge of pungently spicy cedar. All carry richly into the cup with an excitement a bit too edgy for elegance. A slight shadow of astringency lurking in the cup emerges clearly in the long finish.

Notes: A dry-processed or "natural" coffee, meaning the beans are dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit has been removed, as is the case with wet-processed or "washed" coffees. A prize winner in the 2005 Ethiopia ECafe Competition ( competition, where as a green (unroasted) coffee it placed fourth in the dry-processed category, attracting a score of 89.52 from an international jury. Coffee Klatch is an award-winning small-batch roasting company in the Los Angeles area. Visit or call 877-455-2824 for more information.

Who Should Drink It: Those who find balance a drag on excitement.

Coffee, more so than wine, is a continually changing product. Recent reviews, whether written by Coffee Review or readers, are most likely to reflect current versions of a given coffee.
